THE RED LIP

We’ve all seen her. How she allures us with her perfectly shaped red lips, tempting us to follow her every movement–every word, even if it’s “not interested.” She’s poised. Sexy. Confident. Not for the faint of heart. Do we have you going yet? Do you want to feel poised? Sexy? Confident? The Red Lip Project is meant to do just that–help you find what is missing and give you tips to rejuvenate your style–your spirit–and your life. We are going to style you new, so let’s dive right in.

One of the easiest and quickest ways to improve your overall style is to improve the little things, like lips–red lips to be exact. Many women struggle with finding that perfect red to set off their evening gown, which we all know can make or break everything. Many more women avoid wearing a red in their day-to-day look for fear of coming across too bold. Well, I’ve come a long way since drawing on my face with my mother’s red lipstick when I was a little girl and I’m here to share a few of those secrets with you in hopes that you can become an even better you.

FINDING YOUR PERFECT RED

The next time you walk through the ethereal doors of Sephora, you are not going to be a deer in headlights when finding a red followed by spending unnecessarily on a lipstick that doesn’t work for you. Take up these four must have tips and begin down the road to finding your perfect red.

MATCHING LIP LINER

Like many great things, lips needs boundaries–finite lines that help define them. Don’t underestimate the value of perfectly shaped lips. Lip liners can be the difference between a hypnotizing smile and looking like this year’s Joker. Buy the matching lip liner. It will cost you a little more, but you and your lips are worth it.

ANALYZE YOUR SKIN TONE

You might have wondered why certain colors look off on you but look great on your friends. Skin tone plays a huge part in which colors compliment you. These are some basic tips for your skin tone: Pale skin–try reds with blue undertones. Dark skin–try vampy berry. Reds with orange undertones look fab on just about everyone. Finding the right hue can be tricky, so don’t feel bad if you are having trouble here. This is where an expert can do wonders for you.

EXFOLIATE

A red lip will reveal and draw attention to the slightest imperfection. Treat your lips as you would the rest of your face and exfoliate them… often! Adding them to your weekly exfoliation routine will drastically improve your overall lip quality, encouraging you to wear that sexy, confident red. You might even want to try using a warm towel and gently scrubbing to start otherwise try Dior Lip Sugar Scrub.

FOLLOW THE TREND

Don’t be afraid to branch out and try something trendy or new. Lips are like the rest of fashion–there are trends. You might even want to try matte or metallic red… the hottest lip trend this season.

There is so much more to come, so stay tuned. We will have your back, make you laugh and give you some killer fashion and beauty tips along the way!

THE NIP AND TUCK

We have all been there we find THE perfect piece and it just doesn’t quite fit properly. I personally encounter this issue all the time with my clients. And there is an easy fix. Tailoring. It means the difference between walking away from a stellar piece of clothing at an amazing price or taking an hour to bring it the tailor to make it perfect for your body. Albeit a chore but worth your time to make the clothes look like they were made just for you.

Now how do you know what pieces need tailoring; specifically, where? This is where I, your stylist, comes in and saves the day. As a wardrobe stylist I am a pro at making your wardrobe look its best. And that includes providing practical advice on what can be tailored and how this will affect how the piece should look on your body.

Any good tailor will know what is feasible in terms of fixing a garment. Also, I always accompany my client to any tailoring session to ensure we are achieving the desired look.

All wardrobe stylists should recommend tailoring when appropriate. And that’s exactly what I and Style Me New offer.  A few things to keep in mind when hiring a seamstress or tailor; (1) they are professionals with an established clientele, (2) they have upfront and fair pricing and (3) they have worked with wardrobe stylists in the past.

Until next time xo

Chris
